Spring Cleaning - Detox Style

Writer: undefined

We can tell that spring has sprung solely based on the number of Closet Detox experiences we have had the pleasure of enjoying with our clients these past two months. Spring is a time of renewal and fresh starts and nothing sets off a new season better than hitting the restart button on your wardrobe.

There are many benefits to detoxing or decluttering your space, however, we have found in our experiences recently that the following rang particularly true and we wanted to share these findings with you:

1. Contentment/Happiness

We are all guilty of holding on to items of the past - some bring back lovely nostalgic memories while others bring us back to a time/place that is best left in the past. Looking at a closet of clothes that used to fit (pre-baby, pre-marriage, pre-40's) at a different time in your life can bring about feelings of stress or unhappiness instead of self love for the incredibly strong and beautiful person you are today. Clearing out these negative associations can clear these thoughts from your mind and help you become more present and ready to embrace the future.

2. Improved Productivity/Time Management

Admit it, we've all done it.... spent more time than is necessary looking up at your closet in the wee hours of the morning asking ourselves, "What am I going to wear?" and then resigning to the 80/20 principle (wearing 20% of your clothes, 80% of the time). When your closet is organized and everything in it fits well and looks good it makes it easier to make a decision on what to wear giving you more time to enjoy that morning cup of coffee.

3. Emotional Toll of Clutter

Many studies have been conducted on the impact of clutter on our mental and physical health. Clutter has been assessed as a source of anxiety and stress. By changing our physical environment we can change our state of mind and body in a positive way. When you take control of your surroundings, you free yourself from them and regain control.

4. Mastering Feng Shui

Much can be learned from ancient Chinese Masters whose teachings are based on the philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. Many Feng Shui Masters will tell you that creating organized space helps to open up the flow of energy and allow for new things to come into your life.

5. Saving $$

Sorting our items forces us to recognize the contents of our closets and take stock of the inventory in our space. This action allows us to save money on buying a repeat of what you already have but may have forgotten about. Next time we shop we won't be searching for another pair of black pants when we already have 8 in various spots throughout our closet.

6. Making $$

Editing your wardrobe more frequently allows you to identify those pieces that no longer fit your needs but are still current, on trend and valuable to someone else through consignment. If you wait too long you miss the fashion boat when consigning pieces that were pricey items to purchase.

Make the time and make the change! We whole heartedly believe that this experience will benefit you in wonderful ways. If you needs some tips on how to get started, drop us a line and we would love to give you some pointers. If you don't want to do this as a solo mission, Golden Hanger would love to help!
